Dallas Tennis Academy Fitness Philosophy

We wanted to share with you some of Yavor’s training philosophy and his views regarding fitness:

•    As a decathlete, I have competed in all the events in track and field. This has allowed me to develop all the physical abilities necessary for each sport, including: acceleration, reaction time, strength, endurance, muscle explosiveness, balance, and coordination. My personal experience allows me to guide future athletes through a Program that keeps them safe from injuries while at the same time developing proper mechanics and strength.

•    Regardless of the sport my students are involved in, I approach everybody as a future runner - running is in the base of every single sport. Proper running is a combination of many simple movements that require accuracy and precision, which are necessary to the game of tennis. The running mechanics I teach share quite a lot with the tennis mechanics being taught by our Academy’s coaches – both require constant adjustment in order to achieve technical perfection and prevent injuries.

•    I also focus on change of direction drills. These are necessary to fully develop a player’s game. The ability to change direction in a split second, allows the player to have an efficient method of turning to recover, and running to the ball.

•    Working on developing lower body strength and explosiveness in a tennis player helps the player push their body weight into the ball, stay low, and run and recover on the court.

•    Upper body strength in a tennis player is equally necessary to be able to pack power into the ball. However, I believe that one should not train only for strength, but also to prevent injuries. If one has a stronger muscle frame, the chance for injury is much lower.

•    Finally. I believe that the one element pulling all of this together is the players Attitude. The best athlete is the one who is honest with his coach and knows what his goals are.
